Too early Clanky, too early!

I am short. That means I have short legs. Not long legs. Not a long graceful stride. No gazelle-esque canter here. Anyone seem Gimli in the 2nd Lord of the Rings movie – basically huffing and puffing and clunking around the whole time while his mucho more graceful companions run circles around him? That’s me when I run. And yet I am pegged to run a half marathon with my taller, mucho more gaceful girlfriends next month. How the heck did I get talked into it? It was probably mostly my flub talking to me. Whispering from my overly-ample-right-now hips… Cuhrazy!

So the training schedule on my fridge tells me I am supposed to run 6 miles today. Say what?!? That’s like 4 hours by my watch! This is why I am awake right now. At this ridiculously dark and cold hour. I am N-O-T a 5am riser – only if I’ve gone to bed at 6:30 the night before… But early early early runs are necessitated by having a babe (who rises much too early himself) and the desire not to feel like the giantest loaf in the world when I going running at a more respectable hour but don’t get a shower until 3pm. Here I go… coral lipstick and all…

A Matter of Taste

I have this friend Rosie who is basically the most beautifully tasteful person I know. She dresses, speaks, eats and lives on a level I can only aspire to. On a trip to the beach earlier this year, I am luggingaround my red, faux-snakeskin duffle from Ross, while she has monogrammed Pottery Barn canvas totes. She wears classic black trenches while I am still in my turquoise Wet Seal windbreaker (with ruching I might add)… It seams that I am often teetering on the edge of garish – I am just so schmoozed by glitter and rhinestones and color and pop! And I have this innate fear of getting super boring as I get old. Not really afraid of getting old – just blah and boring. But I am trying to be better. Trying to remember that I am not my 15 yr-old little sister. That I can’t (and shouldn’t want to) wear neon Reebok hightops.

So here’s how good I am being. Watch. You’ll be amazed……drumroll……I just bought WHITE, WHITE, WHITE towels for my bathroom this weekend!!! Aren’t you proud? Five years ago when Mark & I got married, we registered for minty seafoam green towels. I even chastised another couple registering at the good BB&B at the same time as us for registering for some “boring beige” washcloths… I was young…and rude…what can I say? Here are my new, so classic and tasteful bathroom accoutrements:

Hah – They’re leopard AND they have little sparklies. I think they rock. And they’re super comf. Maybe Rosie would never wear them, but I’m not really sad right now that I do.

So neutral, yet so not. I am in love right now with all things milk glass. Herbs, flowers, strawberries. What could you put in milk glass that wouldn’t be bettered by the exercise? Eclectic, vintage, classic, and a bit girly. Yes, Yes, Yes!

Why do I loathe them so?? I think because wristlets in my high school days were so scratchy and chintzy. For a long time I have made mine on wide satin ribbon that you simply tie around your wrist. Now the floral supply companies are making pearl and rhinestone bracelet-esque corsage bases. They are also making slap-bracelet style bases. So throwback, but so practical (except when the bracelet is made in iridescent turquoise). I think I may warm up to them… grudgingly… Here is one from a recent event.
